Channel Package, v.1

Project overview:

Dream job that landed in our laps after hitting a couple of promos out of the park for HBO — this package happened early on while creative director and partner at Verb! Media. We were invited to do a non-competitive pitch to see if we couldn’t come up with something fresh to answer the tagline, “It’s not TV...” Our client at HBO saw something he liked in our first round, and came back for more. 

By the time we finished the project, we had built a new navigation system, “genre” openers and network IDs.

Project overview:

The genre opens are a tougher target to hit than they might seem—they  play right before HBO-produced programming so they receive maximum repteated exposure by viewers. The adjectives + edit structure was locked in because it had become a sort of brand trope for HBO over the years. 

So the type had to be the hero—and it had to be expressive, complex and sexy enough to stand up to hundreds of viewings without getting stale.  Of course, getting a national stage to show off typography is any designer’s dream, and we had a blast with this one.
